Bentazon
Description
Bentazon is a selective contact herbicide that kills broadleaf weeds but is safe for certain grass crops like rice and corn. The word 'selective' means it can kill certain types of plants (broadleaf weeds) while leaving other plants (grass crops) unharmed. The word 'contact' means it only kills the parts of the plant that it touches directly - it doesn't move through the plant like systemic herbicides do. When you spray bentazon on broadleaf weeds, they will start to turn yellow and die within a few days. It works especially well on annual broadleaf weeds like pigweed, lambsquarters, and many others. One of the advantages of bentazon is that it can be used after your crops have already started growing, which is called post-emergence application. This means you can wait to see what weeds come up in your field and then spray them specifically. Bentazon is commonly used in rice fields, corn fields, and some other grass crops. However, it's very important to know that bentazon will kill or damage broadleaf crops, so you must never spray it on or near crops like soybeans, cotton, or vegetables. It's also important to be careful about drift - if the spray drifts onto your broadleaf crops, it can cause serious damage. Always spray when the weather is calm, and be very careful not to let the spray drift to areas where you have broadleaf plants. You can use it on grass crops when broadleaf weeds are actively growing. Always wait the required number of days (usually 7-14 days) after spraying before harvesting your crops. Always follow the label instructions and wear protective clothing when using this product.
