Diuron
Description
Diuron is a selective residual herbicide that prevents weeds from growing by stopping their ability to make food. The word 'residual' means it stays active in the soil for a long time, continuing to work for several weeks or even months after you apply it. The word 'selective' means it can kill weeds while leaving your crops unharmed, but only if you use it on the right crops. When you apply diuron to the soil, it prevents weed seeds from growing and also kills small weeds that are just starting to emerge. This is very effective because it stops weeds before they become a problem. Diuron works especially well on annual broadleaf weeds and some grasses. It's commonly used in crops like cotton, sugarcane, and some fruits. One of the advantages of diuron is that it has very long residual activity, which means it continues to work in the soil for many weeks after application, providing ongoing weed control. This means you don't have to spray as often. However, it's very important to know that diuron can stay in the soil for a long time and can affect crops that you plant later in the same field. You must wait the required number of days (usually 60-90 days or more) after application before planting other crops in the same field. Also, diuron can be harmful to the environment, especially to water sources, so you must be very careful not to let it run off into streams, ponds, or irrigation water. You can only use it on crops that are specifically listed on the label. Always follow the label instructions very carefully and wear protective clothing when using this product.
